"Soy una mujer y me han asaltado sexualmente más de una vez", declara O'Neal. La actriz prosigue afirmando recordar agresiones ocurridas "cuando tenía 5, 6, 12, 13, 15 años" y cometidas por "hombres mayores junto a quienes creía estar segura". "Apenas he conocido la seguridad, siempre me echaron a mí la culpa de estos asaltos por hablar alto y ser curiosa", prosigue. O'Neal afirma que solo ahora, a sus 54 años, ha aprendido a asumir que ella no era la responsable de las agresiones.

Esta no es la primera vez que Tatum O'Neal recuerda haber sufrido violencia sexual siendo niña: en su autobiografía, publicada en 2004, la actriz afirmó que el camello de su padre la violó cuando tenía 12 años. En esta ocasión, las declaraciones de O'Neal están motivadas por las burlas de Donald Trump hacia Christine Blasey Ford, la mujer que afirmó haber sido violada a los 15 años por Brett Kavanaugh, candidato a juez del Tribunal Supremo de EE UU. Pese a las protestas, Kavanaugh fue nombrado para el puesto el sábado.
